  1. This is a question we get asked often.  All nose screws are either designed for the left or right nostril.  A right nostril nose screw will bend to the left if the gem is facing towards you, making the left nostril nose screw bend to the right. The important thing to note is regardless of what design you have, you can actually wear either bend in either nostril. The only difference when you insert a nose screw into the opposite nostril is you will need to twist it the opposite way when inserting it. Depending on which nose screw you are inserting it will also change the direction of the bend in the screw either looking look like a "u" shape or an "n" shape.

We have a huge selection of nose screws available in white and yellow gold, surgical steel and sterling silver.

  3. What is the Difference Between a Right an Left Nostril Nose Screw?

This is a question we get asked often.  All nose screws are either designed for the left or right nostril.  A right nostril nose screw with bend to the left if the gem is facing towards you, making the left nostril nose screw bend to the right.
If there is a particular item that you'd like and want it designed for the opposite nostril please send us a message at sales@qualitynosestuds.com and we would be happy to see if that could be customized for you.

  4. If you are like us, and like the look of gemstones that don't have prongs or metal surrounding it we carry glued in gems that provide this look.
With glued in gems you need to be aware that at some point in time the glue will loosen and your gemstone will fall out.  To prolong the inevitable we recommend putting a clear coat of nail polish over these types of gemstones that are only glued in.  The nail polish will hold the gemstones in longer.  You will want to try to avoid humid areas such as a hot shower while wearing your glued in gemstone as well.  The heat will work to loosen the glue under the gemstone.  Of course, if the gemstone on your nose jewelry falls out you can glue it back in yourself.  Otherwise some of our nose jewelry styles come in a 20 pack at a very low cost so you may want to order in bulk. :)
For those customers that want a long lasting piece of nose jewelry we recommend a 14KT White or Yellow Gold Nose Stud with a prong setting to hold the gemstone in place.  These studs will last for years to come!

  5. Labret Style Nose Studs

Quality Nose Studs has introduced a new style of nose jewelry to our collection; Labret Style Push Pin Nose Studs.

These nose studs fit just like a labret stud, but are designed specifically for the nose.  The labret style nose studs have a smaller base than what regular labret jewelry would have, however you can also use these for your labret piercings as well.

The tricky thing about the labret nose stud is that you have to insert it from the inside of your nose.  The post is inserted from inside, and once the nose stud is pushed through your nose, you can insert the push pin into the nose stud.

The push pins that we currently have range in sizes from 1.5mm-3mm.  They come in bezel settings, claw settings, or a ball design.

The labret nose stud posts we currently offer are available in Titanium.  The post inserts are either 14KT White Gold, or 316L Surgical Steel.

You can view this new labret style nose studs by clicking on the following links.  As always, if you have any questions please email us at sales@qualitynosestuds.com

  6. Rose Gold

    Nose Jewelry

Rose gold can also be called “Russian Gold” due to its popularity in the 1800's in Russia. Rose gold is made out of Gold and Copper. The more red a piece of nose jewelry, the higher proportion of nickel it contains. Every piece of gold is the standard yellow colour. However, when you add other metals such as platinum, zinc, or copper it can change the colour to create those that we are more familiar with such as white gold. You may want to be unique and purchase our new rose gold nose jewelry that will be launched in the coming weeks. We will be introducing a nose bone in rose gold, as well as a nose screw.

  7. Cubic Zirconia (CZ) Nose Jewelry

You have probably heard the term CZ or Cubic Zirconia when discussing nose jewelry or any other type of jewelry; earrings, rings, necklaces etc.

Cubic Zirconia is a hard material, colorless naturally, but can be made into beautiful colors such as the ones you can find on www.qualitynosestuds.com

You may opt to choose a nose ring that has a Cubic Zirconia gemstone instead of a real diamond because it gives a similar look of a real geniune diamond, at a lower cost. We have many nose rings available that have both CZ's and Geniune Diamonds.

    Choosing Your Perfect Nose Jewelry

This blog will help you when you are shopping for your perfect nose stud or nose ring. If you have never purchased a nose stud or nose ring before, there are a few things that you will need to know in order to ensure everything fits perfectly, and you are not disappointed!

Of course you will want to find the perfect look for your nose stud/ring by browsing through our many selections of nose jewelry. There are categories on our homepage to help you find the perfect style. Examples: nose rings, nose studs, nose bones, straight studs.

Second, you will want to ensure that your nose jewelry that you have chosen, comes in your size. Nose jewelry is measured by gauge, which refers to the thickness of your nose stud or nose ring. There are different gauge sizes, and it is important to choose the one that will fit you perfectly.

Another important part of picking your nose jewelry, is making sure that the post length is perfect for your nose. Just like jewelry, our noses come in all shapes and sizes and its important to know what length of post you require for your nose stud. You don't want to end up with a post that is too long that touches the middle of your nose, nor do you want something too short that won't fit!

We measure all of our gems from the widest point. You will see on our website for all nose studs they will have the size of the gem or ball that will lay on your nose. We measure these in mm and you can easily determine which to choose by using a home ruler to determine how big you want your gem to be.

If you follow these simple steps you won't be disappointed with your purchase. If there is something that you see on our website that doesn't come in your size, try our custom nose jewelry section. Or, please send us an email and we will see if there is something we can recommend or suggest!

  9.

    Gauges

One of the most important parts of choosing a nose stud is determining the thickness of the post so that it fits perfectly in your nose!

    22G-.5mm

    20G-.8mm

    18G-1mm

    16G-1.2mm

Many people also adapt their peircings. This refers to the practice of stretching the nose piercing to the next size gauge. Or even going to a smaller gauge. We recommend that you only go up or down by 1 gauge at a time to avoid discomfort and possible infection, and also to avoid the nose stud from falling out if you are going to larger gauge.

  10.

    10K, 14K, 18K, 24K GOLD

Have you ever wondered what karat to buy when purchasing a piece of gold nose jewelry? This blog will help explain some of the differences between the karats that Quality Nose Studs offers to our customers.

To start, a karat refers to the unit of purity. There are 24 parts in total to make up the Karat. Therefore, 24K gold is 100% pure. The more pure the gold, the softer it is. Most jewelry manufacturers do not use 100% pure gold as it is too soft. The manufacturers will use other types of metals to make the nose ring, or other jewelry.

The most common metals that are used with gold to make your jewelry are; nickel, zinc, silver, palladium, platinum, and copper.

    24K Gold

    100% Pure

    18K Gold

    75% Pure

    14K Gold

    58.3% Pure

    10K Gold

    41.6% Pure

Please visit our homepage to view the categories of gold nose jewelry that we have to offer, we are confident you will find the perfect stud!

  12. Surgical Steel, or Anodised Surgical Steel?

Surgical steel is the material used when you first get your nose pierced.  Nose screws made of surgical steel are great options for those that are allergic to other metals, or develop reactions easily.  If you are new to having your nose pierced, a surgical steel nose screw, nose ring, or nose stud would be a great option when buying your first piece.

Whether to go with surgical steel or Anodized Surgical steel is a personal preference.  Anodised simply means that the metal is coated with a protective film that allows the nose screw to be coloured.  In this case, the nose screw is black: http://www.qualitynosestuds.com/product/NS251.

Your regular surgical steel nose screw as shown here: http://www.qualitynosestuds.com/product/NS256 is silver.  Both options are great, and none is better than the other - it is only a matter of what you want your nose screw to look like. :)

  13. Bioflex Plastic Nose Jewelry

Bioflex Plastic nose screws are growing more popular for those that find themselves continuously experiencing irritation with other metals.  And also for those that are seeking a nose screw that is comfortable and flexible!  The bioflex plastic nose screws are hypo-allergenic and are known to help heal infected piercing sites faster as it minimizes irritation.  Not only is this type of nose screw flexible and comfortable, but it is hygenic and really easy to clean.  You can adjust your nose screw by cutting it to the desired length.  The Bioflex nose screws are transparant, which allows full attention to whatever stone you have.  It is heat and cold resistant.  Your nose screw will not loose its shape in extreme weather conditions, and will not freeze or melt.
Quality Nose Studs offers bioflex nose screws, nose rings, and also nose jewelry backings!  Check out our selection today, and be on your way to a more comfortable nose piercing experience. :)

  14. Surgical Steel

Surgical Steel is one of the most common types of nose rings that you can purchase.  If you are more prone to infections, or if your nose piercing is sensitive, this is a great choice for a nose ring. It is a common that a piercer will pierce your nose with a surgical steel nose ring. Surgical steel nose rings are made up of nickel, chrome and molybdenum.  The nickel content in surgical steel can be trapped inside by polishing the jewelry with a protective layer of chromium oxide, making it less likely to cause irritation for those that are allergic to nickel.  The nickel provides a smooth finish to the nose ring, and the molybdenum gives the nose ring its hardness.  In addition to the polished finish of the nose ring, surgical steel is corrosion, and scratch resistant.

  15.

    Nose Retainers

A nose retainer is a great accessory for those times when you can't wear your nose ring. A nose retainer is clear and comes in all gauges. There are some retainers that come in different colours as well, however most people find the clear nose stud or nose screws are the best when trying to hide a piercing.

Quality Nose Studs offers both the nose screw and the nose stud retainers. We offer a bio flex type retainer, which makes it very easy to put in, and take out and is very comfortable. Also we have a mono filament type retainer made from dental grade acrylic. This type is virtually transparent and is the highest technology in nose screw retainers. This retainer style can also be cut to your desired length.

Titanium nose rings are 100% hypoallergenic and great for people who are prone to infection. It will not produce skin irritation or discolouration when wearing your nose ring. Titanium is stronger than steel and yet 45% lighter, and is also immune to corrosive attacks by salt water and the marine atmosphere. Wearing your nose ring in these type of environments is safe, and will not harm your jewelry or piercing site. Unlike other metals it has great resistance to acidity and your nose ring will not change its appearance over time. 17.

    Silver

9.25 sterling silver is the most common form of silver on the market. Silver is considered a soft metal, and therefore needs to be alloyed with other metals to increase its strength. In its pure form, it can be very easily damaged.
Silver is a good option for people looking to purchase nose studs, but who don't wish to spend a lot of money. Silver is very reasonably priced, and yet is still fashionable. It can easily be incorporated into any outfit, no matter the occassion. The most commonly known silver used for nose studs is sterling silver.

Just like any other sterling silver item you may have, a nose stud still requires the same care. Avoid wearing your nose stud in chlorinated water, and also avoid other cleaning products for polishing. Silver does tend to tarnish, but can be transformed back to the new condition by using a polishing cloth or products designed specifically for silver cleaning. By following these basic care instructions, you will be wearing your nose stud for many years to come!

  18. Platinum Jewelry

Platinum is most commonly used for wedding and engagement rings, necklaces, and bracelets. In recent years however, Platinum Nose rings and nose Jewlery has grown more and more popular. Platinum is a very durable, strong, and pure metal and is therefore preferred by most jewelry designers and manufacturers.
The worlds most famous diamonds are secured by platinum, and are also hypoallergenic. If you have had issues in the past with your piercing getting infected, it is strongly recommended that you try a platinum setting for your nose ring. Not only is platinum hypoallergenic, it also resists tarnish, which is a common reason for your nose pin to cause infection. Platinum is strong therefor the claws will be stronger in holding in your nose jewelry stone and will resist damage if snagged by clothing, face cloths or regular wear.
There is more than just these few reasons why Platinum Nose Jewelry is the metal of choice, and that is why we are committed to bringing you a selection of Platinum Nose Jewelry on our website. Please visit the Custom Design section to choose yours today!

  19. Bridge Piercing

Located at the top of the nose, between the eyes.
This piercing does not impact the eyesight or cause any complications, however there is a high risk
of the piercing being rejected.  If the piercing rejects, or is removed there is also a very good chance
    it will leave a scar.

Types of Jewelry most commonly used: A curved or straight barbell.

    Nostril Piercing

The second most common piercing next to an ear piercing.  The nostril piercing can be done on either
side of the nose, or even both sides.  Both men and women have nostril piercings, however it is more
    common in women.

Types of Jewelry most commonly used: Nose pin, nose ring, nose screw, nose bones, or nose stud.

    Nasal Septum Piercing

Location of this piercing is on the wall that separates each nostril. Commonly referred to as the bull ring.
In most cases the cartilage is not pierced, but rather the small gap between the bottom of the nose and
    the cartilage.

Types of Jewelry most commonly used: Circular barbells, captive bead rings, septum retainer, septum rings.

  20. There are a few different reasons why someone may want to adapt their nose piercing down or up a gauge. The most common is that the style they like can not be found in the gauge they currently have or if they were pierced with too big of a gauge for a nose piercing such as a 16 Gauge. The nose piercing is one of the fastest and most adaptable piercing, meaning that it will adapt to whichever size gauge you put in it. So if you have a 18 gauge piercing you can wear 20G nose studs, nose screws or nose rings as well and your piercing will adapt very quickly. If you want to go back to an 18G you can and it will adapt. If going from a smaller gauge nose stud, nose screw or nose ring to a larger gauge, you can stretch your piercing by putting some pure vitamin e oil on your nose jewelry and your nose piercing and slowly guiding the stud through. If you are going from a larger gauge to a smaller gauge, place the stud in just before bedtime and place a small round band-aid over top to hold it from falling out. By morning it should be adapted and wearable. If you have had the same gauge in for a very long period of time then this may take longer. Please note you should only go up or down by one gauge at a time.

    18G - Thickest

    20G - Standard

    22G-24G -Thinnest

  21. There are several types on nose jewelry to choose from and for most it is personal preference as to which style they wear. However for some it might be the type of nose they have that that effects their choice in style. For eg. A very thin nostril piercings best choice will be a nose bone or L shape, whereas a thicker nostril wears a nose screw more comfortably.

Understanding the different styles is important to your nose jewelry choice

Nose Rings are round hoops and they come in several different styles such as captive bead rings which have a ball in the closure, continuous nose rings have a space in them which is clamped shut once the nose ring is in the piercing. A segment nose ring is a hoop that has a small section that can be removed for insertion which gives it a seamless look. Nose rings can be worn not only in the left or right nostril but also in the center septum of the nose. They are also commonly worn several other piercing's on the body.

Nose Screws have a bend in the post either left bend for left nostrils or right bend for right nostrils. These are a very popular style as the gauge is the same through the whole nose jewelry piece which makes them easier to put in and take out and the bend in the piece keeps it from falling out. Please note we can make any nose screw either left or right bend upon request.

Nose Bones have a straight post with a small ball on the end. The ball on the end is slightly thicker than the gauge of the jewelry making the nose bone the most secure as the nose piercing adapts to the gauge of the post, the larger gauge ball keeps it from coming out. The issue some have with this style is that it can be a bit painful putting the nose bone in or removing it. It is best to use some pure vitamin e-oil to help with the insertion or removal as this will moisten the piercing and has soothing and healing properties.

Nose Studs are completely straight posts that can be custom bent into an L or screw style form and becoming an increasingly popular style of choice. Remerber that www. qualitynosestuds.com can customize this style for you upon request. Just contact us before you order with the specifics such as post length ect.

Nose Pins this is just another term used for the straight stud style

These are the technical terms for nose jewelry styles however many people call a screw a ring and a stud a bone. As long as you understand the technical terms you will be aware of what you are in fact looking for. On our site we use several different terms for different items for search purposes. If you are ever in doubt the rule is whatever is in the photo is what you will receive.
